About Home Expo '12

Home Expo '12 will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building in Lafayette. This event is FREE to the public and will include speakers, workshops, seminars, food by Bookmark Cafe, and  kids activities by Diana O'Daniels and 4th Grade Girl Scout Troop 33005 (supporting Foster a Dream)! 10:30 a.m. - Rate Your (Dis)Organizing Level

presented by Maureen De Garmo, owner of Maur Organized
Neatnik or Pack Rat?  How does your organizing level stack up?  Maureen De Garmo helps you determine your organizing level and offers helpful tips on how to clear out the clutter and simplify your life.

11:15 a.m. - The ABCs of the Design Review Process

presented by Larry Blodgett,  registered California Architect, President of Blodgett's Abbey Carpet and Flooring in Lafayette, and former Commissioner of the Lafayette Design Review Committee and Flooring and J. Allen Sayles, President of J. Allen Sayles Architecture, and current Moraga Design Review Board member.

What does it mean to build green and why does it matter?  Chris Avant, President of Moraga-based Canyon Construction, talks about the many benefits and technologies being utilized in the world of green building.  His story will be told through the restoration of the Moraga Barn, which is a certified LEED Platnium building, and through years of sustainable remodeling and custom home projects.

1:15 p.m. - Earth, Wind, Fire, and Rain - One Home's Intriguing Eco-System

presented by James P. Wright, AIA, Principal of James Phillip Wright Architects and Net Zero Energy Architects
James Wright, Lafayette green architect and contractor, showcases his latest project - the first completely net-zero water and energy use home in Lafayette.  Through the careful use of materials, space-conditioning systems and reclaimed water combined with the home's artistic and architectural expression, he shows us how to make the terms "Green and Sustainable" truly attainable.
